I think it is quite obvious that Ozzy’s departure was directly linked to the popularity of Sabbath. After he left they became less and less popular. Once Dio was gone they were really getting low on the popularity contest. On his own Oz became "larger than life". However, music shouldn’t be a popularity contest otherwise thriller by M. Jackson would be the best album of all time. I like the solo Ozzy and the Sabbath both so much that I could never decide which is better. I guess it would depend on my mood. I view it all as Ozzy music since it is just the different phases of his career (although he had less influence over the final product with Sabbath). I think he has an undeniable talent for bringing out the best in any song and this is part of the reason that Sabbath went down hill after they got rid of Ozzy. Plus Ozzy was the only one in the band that really had a magnetic personality in the media and with the fans. He always comes across to me as someone who you can relate to and who’s music is honest. To see what makes Ozzy different from most other rock stars just watch the Don’t Blame Me video. No one but Oz would put out such an honest down to earth video.

I have/had/listened to all Sabbath albums and all Ozzy albums, and I’m not afraid to say Ozzy solo is much better than anything Sabbath has done, with or without Ozzy. Why do I have the Sabbath signature then, you ask? Hard to say, because after leaving Sabbath Ozzy has gone on to put out albums that are completely different from what he did with the band. I’m listening to "Children of the Grave" right now, and thinking that this is a pretty typical song from Sabbath era, but there’s not a single song that Ozzy has produced after leaving the band that even remotely reminds me of it….His solo stuff is just too different. Saying that, I still like his solo albums better, maybe because I have more of them than Sabbath ones. arattle

My favourite albums are ozzman cometh and ozzmosis. So I would probably say Ozzy by him self (excluding a few gigs in the 80’s) . I hated the fact that Black Sabbath had numerous lead singers. It just didn’t seem like Black Sabbath without Ozzy. But……then again, Ozzy didn’t seem complete without Geezer, Bill and Tony. That’s a tough question!!!
