Start raising your eyebrowes then. When Ozzy had some throat problem in Ireland, it was questionable wheter or not he would play in The Netherlands. I talked to some people from MOJO concerts, they organize most events here in The Netherlands and they said no. If it were a concert from Ozzy, ofcourse you can get a refund if no reschedule is made. But this is different: it is OZZFEST. Ofcourse alot of people come to see just Ozzy but that is none of their concern. To Mojo, Ozzy dropping out is just like some nu-shit band dropping out. Ofcourse it is a big blow but the rest of the festival can continue. You paid for OZZFEST, the festival. It is OZZFEST you get, less complete (crippled, blinded, deaf and dumb if you ask me) but it is there nonetheless. But things may be different elsewhere. Cheers, Tjander
Response:
It certainly sounds like people are bitching despite what JC said. Of course you don’t have to like the Ozzfest bands (although you don’t have to be under 25 to like them either–I like most of them, and I’m middle-aged; I’ve also seen Sabbath, Zeppelin, Maiden, Priest, Van Halen etc. live many times since the 70s), but it doesn’t seem like the best thing to spend your money on if you don’t like the other bands, and especially if you think Ozzy is a "burned out heavy metal icon". I saw Ozzfest in Boston and loved it, but I was looking forward to seeing Ozzy, System of a Down, Rob Zombie, P.O.D., Drowning Pool, Black Label Society, The Apex Theory, Ill Nino, etc. I would be surprised if you can’t get a refund if Ozzy isn’t playing. Do something you actually enjoy with your time and money. –M.A. Rogers

Hey, I’ll play. I agree, but there is no reason to get SO defensive and put down others here for their own personal opinions. You have your opinion and others have their own. No need to get nasty though. > Go see your shitty Ozzfest, you > dumb-asses, and pay your $125 to get a > free 8-oz. Well, I doubt it will be food that Sharon is giving….Most likely free T-shirts or other memorablia like that. Not Coca-Cola. I do agree with one thing though, most, if not all of the so called heavy metal bands at Ozzfest SUCK and personally I would not pay $10 bucks to see them. If Ozzy were playing alone, it would be much much better. There’s a big difference between Ozzy and the bands at Ozzfest this year. The other bands basically just SCREAM and Yell and have to also rely on appearance like make-up and stuff to compensate for their lack of musical ability. Zakk Wylde though is very talented with strings, he’s rocks tough. Ozzy’s music has meaning, every note and word is in perfect syncrenicity. There are a Lot of good hard rock bands out there, just not at Ozzfest. So I really do get the point you are trying to make. I don’t like the fact that you gotta sit through all of those shitty bands and pay extra for tickets just to see Ozzy. I missed the Merry Meyham(Sp??) tour too, but I really wish Ozzy would appear alone. So to me, Ozzfest w/out Ozzy is a worthless venture. It would be nice to go and show your support, but it is almost like excessive torture if you don’t like the head banging, mosh pit, screaming bands there. All you will get is a severe migraine at best. Sorry but that’s my personal opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Gia

Fucking Christ….I start this thread and look what happens! First of all, I’m 26…and I was raised on rock music. The difference between you and I, however, is that once the calendar turned over to 1990 I didn’t cry foul when it comes to music. I listen to all the old good stuff as well as most of the new stuff that’s out there (…by the way, my favorite bands are Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath). I like classic rock, old metal, new metal, death metal, doom metal, goth metal, black metal, speed metal, thrash metal, techno, industrial, ambient, rock, rap, 80s, jazz, classical, and just about everything else besides country (sorry…never been able to stomach it, but I DO accept it and never put anyone down for enjoying it themselves like you fucks are doing right now with new stuff). I happen to like SoaD a LOT and I also think Hatebreed is one of the best heavy bands of today. Meshuggah will tear you a new asshole and Down will kick your ass some more with some killer Sabbath influenced jams. As far as this year’s main stage acts are concerned I honestly couldn’t care less about POD and Drowning Pool, but you won’t catch me putting down others for enjoying them. Face it, music changes over time… it would not be interesting whatsoever if the same old shit was churned out again and again and again, time after time, for years on end. Things progress – and often come full circle…since there ARE bands today who incorporate MANY influences from the early pioneers of heavy rock music. In 1996 I attended the CMJ Convention in NYC where Lemmy was a keynote speaker. The focus of his speech was that people need to open their ears and minds when it comes to music and "step out of the fucking box" they are in. He rattled off a list of bands that he enjoys that ran the gamut from Bach to Cream to Motorhead (of course…lol) to a handful of the heavy bands around at the time (‘96). He said "who gives a shit what you enjoy listening to – and fuck anyone who thinks you’re stupid for enjoying it." The bottom line is that any person in any band playing any type of music – weather it’s jazz, classical, metal, rap, rock, soul, country, etc…are playing music because they love music. If you know what it means and how it feels to be a musician like I do then you know that there is a LOT of passion that goes into creating music. I draw influences from ALL over the place when I write stuff. Why? Because so much has already been done in music that if ANY band simply wrote songs like bands from 1981 it would be stale and boring since that has already been done before, and yes, it would be hard to top – and to get a mass audience to take notice. (Although I think that if a band came out today that sounded like old Van Halen and was just as good and as creative them you’d scream about that too and call them copycats and accuse them of rehashing old stuff that has already been done before.) New influences are added, things are changed, and attempts at creating a new sound are made. Some succeed, some fail, but they are still all putting forth an effort and creating something they feel passionate about. You might not like it, but lots of people do…and maybe if you took the time to ask a few of those people you’d find out they like all the great old stuff too. If so they obviously know something that you fail to see – that music goes far beyond yesterday, today, and tomorrow… Alright, I’m done for now…that is until someone flames me for this post too! Just remember, opinions are just like assholes (mine and yours included). My recommendations for some excellent new shit: Killswitch Engage – …alive of just breathing In Flames – anything from them, especially the album Clayman (If you took the time to seek out good NEW music instead of throwing up what is force fed down your throat my MTV, Rolling Stone, and Corporate Rock Radio then you’d see that there are actually some decent bands out there today that YOU might even enjoy…) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> All these under-25 "Generation Y" ass-fuckers on this NG dont know what good > music really is. You have a point about the older bands. But where are they now? Why can’t one of them take over for Ozzy so he can be with his wife. Who would you like to see take over for Ozzy if you had your choice?

Exactly. Now why not put the other half to use, and leave this group for good. We’re sick of your crap. As for your list of metal bands, if they’re so dear to you, why don’t you go hang out in a quiet riot group, or judas priest group or some other tired 40" crowd can go choke on each other’s dicks.

Did you not read the whole post? The only part that referred to any "bitching" was the subject line. As far as no options for a refund go why not pick up your fucking phone, call Ticketbastard, and ask for a refund. If they say that isn’t possible then wait until a few days before Ozzfest, call them back, and lie to them saying that a close relative died and the funeral services are on the same day. It’s sick as fuck, but as far as I know it does work. I’m not going to argue with anyone who wishes to receive a refund – in fact they do deserve it. There may be a lot of stupid people in the world, but I doubt Sharon and Ozzy are offering a "treat" to everyone who goes feel knowing that it is an easy way to rip everyone off. Sadly, like everything in the world, Ozzfest is a corporate machine… this "treat" offer may be costing them close to a million dollars. To cancel Ozzfest entirely would probably cost over $20 million and chances are that would deal a financial blow big enough to jeopardize next year’s Ozzfest from even happening at all. It’s not at all about greed, it’s about corporate survival…so these cheap Enron analogies are way off mark. …And you, JC, the board loudmouth, if you are so closed minded that you hate all these new bands and don’t care to give any of them a chance then maybe you should stay home and listen to your fucking 8-tracks while you jerk off while wearing your 1981 Quiet Riot tour shirt fantasizing about what you feel were the "good old days." Stay home…even if Ozzy was performing, Ozzfest doesn’t want you.

Yo, dumbshit. If you’d look around here, people aren’t "bitching" about Ozzy not performing, they are upset about the fact they are stuck with tickets to a show that doesn’t feature the headliner and have no options for a refund. I’ll say this about Ozzy and his wife. They know how stupid the majority of their audience are and how easy it is the rip them off. It amazes me how some of you can place monetary value of ANY amount over the importance of human life, especially when it comes to something as serious as what Sharon is going through. Place yourself in Ozzy’s position and I can guarantee that if it was your loved one who was afflicted with a potential LIFE ENDING disease that you would want to be by their side during the treatment. If you think Ozzy is the ONLY reason people attend Ozzfest then wake up… Granted, the lineup of bands is not as good this year as previous Ozzfests, but there are still some good acts on the bill. If you don’t think so then maybe Ozzfest is not for you at all. Just look around at an Ozzfest, watch the crowd reaction to most of the other bands…the MAJORITY of the people at Ozzfest are there to see the OTHER bands AND Ozzy. It is for that reason that they aren’t going to flat out cancel the rest of Ozzfest altogether. I’m just as upset as everyone else who was looking forward to seeing Ozzy cap off what is always the PERFECT end to an always PERFECT day at Ozzfest, but of course that’s just my own opinion…just remember that because you view Ozzy as being the only reason for Ozzfest doesn’t mean you are the voice of majority. What Sharon is going through right now is probably more difficult than anything she has faced in their life and is probably just as difficult for Ozzy. I completely understand his decision to be by her side for this ordeal because I am sure that he is scared shitless… If you don’t then maybe you should go somewhere where life is treated in a way that is more your style…the Taliban views the value of life in that way. As far as refunds go, they’re currently offering refunds for the rescheduled Bristow show…and it wouldn’t surprise me that they are doing the same for the shows that Ozzy is not going to be at. It can’t hurt to call and ask…you might be surprised. If they’re not then just sell your ticket to someone who would still enjoy spending the day at Ozzfest. Even if you have to lose a little money on the deal wouldn’t that be better than spending a day watching bands you don’t care about? Or maybe you could open your mind and ears, go to Ozzfest anyway, and find that some of the bands aren’t that bad…but I guess that’s kind of hard to do when you’ve already decided to hate something before you have seen it. Bottom line…YES this SUCKS, but just put yourself in Ozzy’s position for a second and try to understand what he is probably feeling right
