Cat Galaxy Makes News

Question:

Hi all. Isis and I made the news. Here is the Article: Station’s listeners to claw a rug BY SCOTT C. SECKEL TRIBUNE Starting Monday, a Scottsdale-based Internet radio station will again broadcast music for coughing up hairballs, scratching the couch, and dashing into another room for no apparent reason. Cat Galaxy is a radio station for cats and their people. Owner Nohl Rosen took the year-and-a-half-old station off the Internet for about a week to beef up broadcast power. "Cats very much respond to music," said the 31-year-old computer technician. "At least most of them do." One night Rosen’s black cat, Isis, meowed and meowed as he relaxed on the couch listening to music. Isis wasn’t hungry or thirsty, and didn’t want to play. He said, "I think I know what she wants." He put on a funk CD. Isis sat down and relaxed. Rosen’s muse had spoken. "I’ve been hearing from a lot of people who say they never would have thought of it," he said. "I thought of it. I didn’t have to copy anyone." While radio shows about pets, with human discussion, are common, Cat Galaxy is the only radio station Rosen knows of that caters to feline tastes. He plays smooth jazz, funk, R&B, and rock in 56k stereo sound. Two shows on the station – Tuesday Night Cat Club and Friday Night Feline Frenzy – are live. "I think I have a special ability to listen to cats," he said. "If you step back and try, you can really communicate with your animal." Besides funk, Isis digs Ozzy Osbourne, he said, but isn’t fond of country. About 300 people and who knows how many cats are dedicated listeners, according to Rosen. "Cat people love it," he said. "Now non-cat people are listening." While he said his friends are "brutally honest" about his hobby, "I’ve never been ridiculed in a bad way about it." His signature song is "Stray Cat Strut" when he sings karaoke each weekend. Rosen started life as a dog person. A few years ago he adopted Isis and got hooked. "Once you get a cat you never go back," he said. "They’re very special, beautiful, intelligent, mystical creatures." The radio station can be heard on the Internet at www.live365.com/play/231353. Very nice, Nohl!!   It said in the article you used to be a dog person.  Somehow I can’t imagine you as a dog person, only a cat person :) Lauren =^..^= See my cats:   http://www.picturetrail.com/mickey4paws/703043 Better to keep one’s mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt – Abe Lincoln

Well I grew up having dogs (family dogs) and even had a wolf. I suspect I was always a cat person at heart. But I was jazzed when they did the article. There were some misquotes though in the article. The station has been down for 3 weeks instead of one while I update everything. Isis likes Ozzy but of course she prefers smooth jazz, funk, R&B, and swing. Anyway, it was funny how the story got done and the reporter didn’t lie when he said it was news. He also stated that it goes over the AP wire so I shouldn’t be surprised if other media like the Today Show would be contacting me. The way I see it is I love cats and if I can do some good in the world helping them then I will do so. The only problem yesterday was Isis didn’t seem to enjoy having a camera lense in her face while I was holding her. Nonetheless she was a good sport about the whole thing. — Cat Galaxy: All Cats, All The Time!  http://members.cox.net/catprotector/station If you love the radio station, you’ll love the gear.
