My cats don’t like my music taste at all. Hard, classic and metal rock. While Shadow was at his sickest point, I used to come home at lunchtime and feed him. I felt so bad leaving, I turned on classical music on the stereo which he seemed to enjoy, but when I’d get home their format had changed during the day and it was really weird music playing. lol I left it on low volume and I never could tell if he liked the weird stuff or not.

Whenever I turn on any music, the cats all scatter and run. Eventually, they return and act ok. But, one of my cats really was against one vintage oldie record I had and broke it. I guess he got tired of hearing Rudy Vallee crooning on one side and the band on the other side singing "Heil (fart), heil (fart), heil (fart) to Hitler" – a very anti-Nazi song from an obscure band in World War II. Bart, our 2 year old moggie, seems to like most music. I’m decorating our house at the moment and when initially doing the wiring I made the ability to pipe the hi-fi to speakers all round the house. I have a CD jukebox which holds 300 CD’s and I usually have it on shuffle play so you never know what you get next. Included in that is a lot of heavy rock (Metallica, Guns’n'Roses) which is usually played pretty loud. When working I have all the speakers in the house cranked up and Bart is usually found sitting on the pillows in our bedroom where I have two particularly good B&W speakers. What’s more peculiar is that the speakers are intentionally positioned so that the top of our bed is equidistant between the speakers, and this is the point where you get the best bass reproduction. I always thought cat’s detested loud noise but Bart seems to positively enjoy it….

I normally listen to soft music and the cats seems to enjoy it a lot as a soundtrack to extra naps. But I noticed something really weird and i would be so grateful if you all could do the experiment and check if it just works here. First of all, let me tell you that the only Disney Movie I have on VHS is Fantasia and my cats never had an occasion to watch any other Disney Movie apart from that. Yet whenever I play Elton John’s Lion King song (the beginning song, can’t remember the title, it starts with Afro drums), all my cats get up from their naps and walk up to the highest part of the sofa and elegantly sit in EgyptianCat / LionKing style… it’s amazing!! They stay like that until the end of the song, then they go back to napping…
