Do you own an ADA MP-1?

Question:

If you do, then I’d like to hear from you!!  I am putting together an "unofficial" ADA MP-1 site with listings of player’s customized patches, tube information, players, etc.  I’d like to get information from anybody that is nice enough to take the time to send it to me!!  I am looking for: Players that you know of that play(ed) the MP-1 Your favorite patch settings (email me for info!!) What tubes have you used in your MP-1? Do you use a MIDI controller?  Which one? I already have patches from several players.  I think this could be a really cool site.  If you have information or questions, please email me! Thanks! Ryan

I believe Hetfield from Metallica used one at one point. Nuno too. >Do you use a MIDI controller?  Which one?

I like the ADA unit because it allows for 9 presets before hitting a bank switch. Good luck.

That would be Kirk from Metallica getting his thin and squeely sounds from the MP-1. Vernon Reid, Paul Gilbert, Vai and lots of other 80’s era players used MP-1’s. A friend of mine had both an MP-1 and MP-2. THey could get interesting tones, but the way the mids were voiced always bothered me a little-they always sounded kinda ‘mushy’ to my ears no matter what… Nice and gainy with a percussive attack, though-good for shredder types and heavy sounds Daniel

Response:

I use an EQ with it. IT took care of that mid range mush real quick. I backed off the mids from the unit so that it didn’t have that mid range mush and clip.

Thanks for the correction (now THERE’s something you don’t hear a lot on usenet). Isn’t he getting his current screechy sounds from Boogie? >Vernon Reid,

Man, talk about squeely overplaying…. I don’t really use the MP-1 too much anymore.  I found some of the tones quite pleasing (I liked the Marshall preset), but it obviously couldn’t do output distortion so it’s now a Tone Toy.

No prob! >Isn’t he getting his current screechy sounds from Boogie?

I believe so, but I don’t follow his/their equipment closely… I remember reading about his ADAs and seeing him in their ads years ago when I was into their stuff… >I don’t really use the MP-1 too much anymore.  I found some of the >tones quite pleasing (I liked the Marshall preset), but it obviously >couldn’t do output distortion so it’s now a Tone Toy.

Their cool; I’ve did some 4 track demo things through my buddy’s MP-2/50-50 that I though sounded OK…but I could never use one as a main amp. Daniel

Response:

I still like the MP-1 I’ve got gobs of other toys, but for the 80’s rock crunch, the MP-1 does the job.
