Question:
Trying to teach myself bass and need some bass lines to study. Too new yet to pick up much just from listening. I’m reading standard musical notation rather than tab and would like suggestions on where to look for bass lines I can play AND listen to. I have a lot of James Taylor’s CDs so lines for his tunes would be great but I’ll buy others in order to learn. Thanks for any ideas. Steve Ryan

If you like punk, try some rancid. It can be tough, but his parts are very repetitive.. |Anthem of the Heart and Anthem of Mind| |Agent MJJ, Matt Jovanis |

Simple basslines? Try Hysteria from Def Leppard & Nothing Else Matters from Metallica

Try simple 12 bar blues lines and sound good when played on the bass only. These are in all beginner bass books. Get one with a CD. They are basis for many classic rock songs and still used today. You just play a simple riff over a I-I-I-I-IV-IV-I-I-V-IV-I-V bar chord progression. Some of the simplest riffs is a 1-3-5-3 or a 1-3-5-6 played quarter notes in each bar. When you get better you can go to quarter notes 1-1-3-3-5-5-6-6, or 1-3-5-6-8-6-5-3. You can make up your own riffs ane vary the beat too. John

Check out http://www.bassplace.com they’ve got some decent stuff for us beginners and it’s inexpensive. I picked up some funk lines for $6.00. Good Luck Vaughn
