Halloween?

Question:

If you’re serious about following up on the band, I’m under the impression that the bassist works for Hewitt’s music in Dearborn, and the guitarist works / owns Scanlan music in Taylor. The Bassist is a really cool guy.  The guitarist, well, I don’t know him….

Does anyone know what happened to a band from Detroit called Halloween? They were around during the early 80’s and had a style similar to Ozzy but  with a Vince Neil singer. Some of the songs on the album that I used to own

Yes, Helloween was from Germany. If there is some any band, from USA, called Halloween, I wonder how they wouldn’t get problems with this name… Of course, it’s only my guess… History if Helloween was rather long, I will say only "milestones"… First lineup was with Kai Hansen on vocals (and guitars of course), they released Helloween EP and Walls of Jericho. They they got Michael Kiske, brilliant singer, and released "Keeper of the seven keys", parts 1 and 2, 87 and 88. They had mayor success everywhere, as I heard… After that Kai Hansen left due to conflicts with style and songwriting (e.g. Michael Weikath, second guitarist, was also great songwriter and it couldn’t lasts for long). They replaced Kai with Roland Grapow. "Pink Bubbles go ape", 90, wasn’t as impressive although still good. "Chameleon", 93, was lightweight, experimentive although very good IMHO (but this is, to each own taste… Many hates this album). It was not very successful, and then Michael Kiske and Ingo Swichtenberg (drummer) were fired. Ingo committed suicide after it, (and I believe because of it). Kiske went solo. New singer, Andy Deris, sounded more like Motley Crue (of course Kiske sounded NOT like Motley Crue at all!!!), not, it doens’t mean he is bad, he has rather rough voice, more suited for glam-metal IMHO. But suprisingly their album was very good, melodic, fast – "Master of the Rings", 94. Their next one wasn’t as good, unfortunately – "TIme of the Oath", 96, but I hope upcoming, in march or april, "Better than Raw" will be again worth to bear than name. Kai Hansen released first solo album in 90 with a band Gamma Ray. Singer, Ralf Sheepers, was a bit like Kiske, powerful, but lacks something comparing with Kiske. Albums: "Heading for Tomorrow", 90 "Sigh No More", 91 "Insanity and Genious", 93 From which first is real gem. Then Sheppers was dismissed because he can’t be whole time with band and Kai wanted to sing again, so he did on "Land of the Free", 95, and it was best one so far! New one, "Somewhere out in Space", 97, is almost as good, and it has some sci-fi concept through it. There is also cover of Uriah Heep "Return to Fantasy" on Japaneze and some of German pressings. In other words, Helloween/Gamma Ray became a trademark of heavy-metal (power-metal) band, gathering best of Iron Maiden, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, and leading "real" metal music into 90s. That’s all my IMHOs, because I really like that bands!!! Also please not flame me if there are some mistakes, and for my personal album ratings. I sure there are much more Helloween fans that could tell that story better than I. In the late 80’s I saw a Marshall head that was recovered in purple crushed velvet… It was supposed to have been from the band Halloween…  It was cool looking. Outt.. Jeff.

Helloween was from Germany(?).. well somewhere near Europe, The singer was nothing like Vince Neil (who wishes he could sing.. like that.. at all..). Last I heard they split up when Kai left the band, which was too bad, because I was looking forward to the next album (the one after keeper.. PT2). Did you say Helloween has a new album coning out? Same band members? Same singer? I’m still looking for keeper of the seven keys 1 and 2 on CD I had them and let my girlfriend borrothem and the next time I saw her was about a year later without the CDs.
