Question:
Thanks for the info, but I did actually read the readme…..after it didn’t work the first time. HEHE. Once I renamed the old DLL, I got the "RAW_READ" error message, so no dice I guess. Thanks anyway. Technology is great! I was just asking my neighbor if he knew of anything that would do what the "Amazing slow downer" does. I found it here. I appreciate it. Re: Tuning down. My electrinic tuner shows you the note & if it’s flat or sharp. To tune down 1/2, I figure I’ll just tune till it recognizes to me but what do I know. My "ear" hasn’t developed yet so I have to rely on the tuner. I can tell it’s coming on because I can audibly tell if I hit the wrong chord.

You may have already done this, but: The installation isn’t quite automatic. You have to rename the original cd dll after installation to turn it off, or the plugin won’t work. There is a README file that gives the details… but, I’ll just cut and paste from the file;) How to use it? Be sure you use WinAmp 2.0 or higher. Then simply copy ‘in_CDReader.dll’ to WinAmpPlugins directory. Don’t forget to shutofforiginal WinAmp CD plugin by changing its extension, for example ‘in_cdda.dll.off’. That’s the important part. If you followed that and got an error message that "Your CD-ROM does notsupport RAW_READ function", then it truly won’t work. Good luck, Brian

If you don’t want to rip and encode the cd, try this plugin: http://www.winamp.com/plugins/detail.jhtml?componentId=546 It will allow you to apply effects to CD audio – eq, DAC effects, slow down, pitch shifts, etc. Might just save you $40! Brian

Here’s how I would do it w/out a tuner. EADGBE The 7th fret on the A is E. The 6th fret on the A is half a step down, D# (Eb). Tune the low E to that D# (Eb) The 5th fret on the D# will now be G#.. you get the picture, you can also do the reversed starting at the high E. Uhh..i hope you understand that. g’luck – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I’m trying to read a tab, and it says to tune down half a step. I checked out the free trial version (allows first two tracks of CD), and I am impressed. I really like the slowdown because it doesn’t introduce a lot of noise, it is very clean. Aldo, it allows as much slowdown as you could ever want. Pitch changer sounds pretty good too. I might end up buying this. Is it worth $40? Will the company be around for a while? Free updates? What else it out there as a competing product? Paul D.
Response:
I have been using it for about 3 years and Rolf upgrades it regularly. He is now offering one that does all forms of digital music including MP3s WMA’s etc, and I recommend that you get this one instead. The full version, is exactly like the trial version except the ability to access any song on a CD instead of only the second track. I have rarely paid for a Shareware, but I have never regretted paying for htis one. I felt it was well worth my money. Try listening to a really fast piece, like A classical violin solo or a speed metal guitarist. I tried Yngwie, and you can actually pick out the notes and the scale patterns quite easily. It sort of makes practicing more fun, and I can figurre out just about anything if I slow it down enough. Don’t forget the ability to loop any section of music too. This is invaluable to practicing and figuring out a song. I wore out many tapes in my day playing the same 3 seconds over and over and over and over and well you get the idea. If my ear isn’t working right, I can actually loop one note and find it. The first time I tried the pitch changer was recently, and I was really impressed that clicking on the progress bar actually advances pitch one half step exactly with no need to try to "tune" the software to the music. Or tune Floyd Rose to the song. I can not say enough good about this program.

Or you can play it as tabbed. It will be a half-step too high and you can’t play along with the CD, but it will still sound ok on it’s own. I do this when I practice Hendrix tunes (which I need to get back too). He tuned down a half step on a lot of his songs. This just means that you would retune every string one half step down. Like this E -> Eb or D# A -> Ab or G# D -> Dd or C# G -> F# or Gb B -> Bb or A# E -> Eb or D# The Eb and D# is the same. It just depends what preference you have about it. I’ve put the most commenly used notation first. (for me anyway) Now you just take your tuner and tune each string to that note. as long as you aren’t playing open chords, i find it easier to just play the tune down a half fret, rather than screwing with the tuning. so if it says 10th fret, play it at the 9th. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I’m trying to read a tab, and it says to tune down half a step. standard tuning is A=440.. I don’t actually know the numbers for Ab (Aflat).. which would be the half step tune down. What I like to do is make sure I am using my ear, developing it, keeping it in shape, whatever.. by tuning by ear along with tuning by the tuner. Reliance on a tuner can be bad, as well as good, because it doesn’t help you develop and maintain a sense of accurate pitch. so what I would do is this.. where normally you’d fret the fifth fret low E string and match the tuning of the A string to that.. simply tune the E string to correct pitch.. A440.. then fret the fourth fret and match the A string to that. then continue tuning the rest of the strings the normal way, to the A string. Finally, go back and tune your Low E to the high E.. (allowing for the difference in octaves of course) voila! you’ve just tune your guitar down a half step.
