Welcome Carlos! Look around at www.juststrings.com I’d recommend roundwounds, nickel and either GHS, or the cheapest you can find.  Some folks here have 10 year old strings :-) Enjoy, have fun, but remember to study too. — -rob     O>         ^ ^

I’d say it depends on what kind of bass it is.  If it’s an Alembic short scale or something expensive like that, I’d put roundwounds on it.  If it’s a Gibson or a Fender Mustang or similar, I believe I’d use flats on it.  Those older design short scale basses are made for flats and don’t really sound so hot with roundwounds.  Choice of material is up to you.  Doesn’t really matter with flatwounds, though. But I don’t know if I’d use the black plastic strings.  Of course, you may like them so who knows? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >This is my first post to this group,so hello to all.I wanted to know if anyone >plays Short scale electric Bass? I have several short-scale basses, Hofner, Jerry Jones, Epiphone, Gibson, Phantom, and Hamer. And depending on the bass, I use GHS Boomers roundwounds or GHS Precision Flatwounds. I’ve tried Pyramid Flats, they’re good but very expensive, I’ve used Rotosound Tru-Bass black nylon and they are great, the Fender version sucked. D’Addario makes a nice RW SS set. Nigel

Then get some short scale roundwound GHS Bass Boomers. I wouldn’t recommend flats unless that’s the sound you’re going for. Same with plastic … I can’t recall playing a bass with plastic strings. No, good quality metal roundwounds are your best bet. They can be found at any music store. GHS, Dean Markley, Rotosound, Fender … really, any brand will do you. Just remember "short scale" — you may have to trim some string, depending on the bass, but them’s the breaks.
