lane poor pickups any good?

Question:

I’ve got to say that Lane Poor’s are the pickup for me too. Let me share my experience with you if I may… I’ve had them in for about four months and was happy with them, but wasn’t sure if they were "it". Because of all the raves I hear for EMG’s, I had to try a set in my bass because I couldn’t rest not knowing. (That shows you what kind of a fanatic I am!) Well as soon as I put in the EMG’s, ( that same night I had a rehearsal) I said to myself, where did my tone go? that beautiful woody tone? I didn’t realize until then that my ears had gotten used to the Lane Poor’s and now I was hearing my Jazz Bass colored through EMG’s. I didn’t like it. They sounded unnatural, way too colored and generic, for want of a better word. Boosted mids? No thank you. The Lane Poor’s were back in the next day to stay. Clear, clean, bass sound. The real sound of my ash body comes through. Don’t let anyone tell you they lack in the lows either. They can move foundations! Now that I have been to the other side and I can say without a doubt that the grass is not greener over there!  Lane Poor forever!!! Response:

I have Lane Poors in two of my basses.  They are passive but they sound active.  I highly recommend the Lane Poor pickups.         Timmer > I want to go active but I have a mexi-jazz bass and lane poor is the only > company that makes drop in replacements for it.  I play mostly punk and ska > and metal/hardcore so… > Thanks > WOuld it be worth it to rout it to be able to install emgs?

I must reinforce the endorsement.  I have them in my 8-string, and I didn’t remember discussing using passives with the guys who built it until I opened it up.  The first few times I played it I thought they were active (see what happens with a 19 month lead time?). Lane Poors are excellent pickups that deliver the sound of your particular bass, rather than color it. I have them in two of my basses. They are NOT active pickups, but he does sell a preamp if you really think it necessary. — Bob eclectic bass – http://www.gollihur.com/bass.html UPRIGHT BASS LINKS – http://www.gollihur.com/kkbass/basslink.html
