ESP LTD or other LP style guitar???

Question:

I’m considering to buy a new solid body guitar and firs of all i’m looking those LP style models with solid mahogany body (because of its warm and sweet tone). Now ESP offers very beautiful LDT model LTD Deluxe EC-1000 STBC (http://www.espguitars.com/html/ec-1000_stbc.html). So have you got any experience with this guitar? What do you think about this? Is it worth to buy? I’ve heard that this guitar is built to play metal because of the EMG pickups – distortion rocks but the clean sound is nothing special. Is that true? I’m playing music like Incubus, A Perfect Circle, Dredg, Red Hot Chili Peppers etc but also jazz and so called jazz-rock. so good clean sound is kind a essential to me. Or have you got other recommendations? Gibson is too expensive i’m afraid and IMHO definitely overpriced. I’m not sure about Epiphone either.  ??? thanks in advance juhani

Response:

The LTD Deluxe line are great guitars for amazing prices.  I’ve played one here in town.  It is lighter and thinner than a standard Les Paul (read easier on your sholder).  It was really well put together, on par with all of the Gibsons I’ve ever played and better than most Epis.  Only two of the three versions of this model include EMG pickups.  If you get the Sunburst one (which is cheaper actually), you’ll get a Seymour Duncan ‘59 at the neck and a Seymour Duncan JB at the bridge.  I love that combination and it is great for rock.  Also, the Sunburst paintjob is stunning to look at, especially with all the abalone inlay and binding on it. The Godin LG is a nice mahogany bodied les paul style guitar that you may like. Good quality, not too expensive. THey come with either Godin humbuckers or Seymour Duncan SP-90s

Response:

All mahogany guitars are typically dark, not warm. I’ve found that they do not cut through very well and lack the sweetness in the attack that a maple top provides. The best Les Paul for jazz (in my opinion of course) is the Les Paul Deluxe, with it’s mini humbucking pickups. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I’m considering to buy a new solid body guitar and firs of all i’m looking > those LP style models with solid mahogany body (because of its warm and > sweet tone). Did the Les Paul Deluxe have mini-humbuckers? I thought they were the soapbar single coils. > All mahogany guitars are typically dark, not warm. You’re both right. The Deluxe had minibuckers, the Deluxe Professional had P90’s. They may have reversed that certain years, I’m not sure. I always wanted a Deluxe Pro in Goldtop or Cherry sunburst finish (w/ P90’s). Cool guitar! Cat – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->All mahogany guitars are typically dark, not warm. they make a model now with Seymour Duncan ‘59 and JB. Awesome guitar. It’s one of the coolest guitars I’ve seen or played in a long time. – Dan – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >I’m considering to buy a new solid body guitar and firs of all i’m looking >those LP style models with solid mahogany body (because of its warm and >sweet tone). I have 3 ESP’s. 2 Bass and an EC. Not as sexy as a Gibson but a much better guitar. If I didn’t already own a Les Paul… that’s where the money would go. Contact me for a dealer at a good price. Just mention my name. Really. Actually they are single coils. Typically I think of humbuckers it’s double coil. See link below http://strings.gibson.com/pickups.html Notice it says P94 humbucker size single coil

No, that page is a little hard to read. The ones on top are the mini-buckers that are on the Deluxe. The ones on the bottom are the P-94’s…humbucker-sized single-coils.

I’ve actually been GAS’n for the Amber ESP EC-1000 with the SD59 and JB pickups. Nice looking guitar, and from the research I’ve done, most folks think they are excellent guitars for the money. The only common complaint that I found was that the fret finishing could be better. But that’s easily taken care of with a simple fret level and polishing. Other than that, fit and finish is supposed to be excellent. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I’m considering to buy a new solid body guitar and firs of all i’m looking > those LP style models with solid mahogany body (because of its warm and > sweet tone).
