Classical Ozzy

Question:

One thing I noticed while at a symphony orchestra concert a couple of weeks ago was that Randy Rhoads must have used a lot of that stuff – in his solos especially.  Much of the cello solo sounded like a RR solo to me.  I’ve always heard he mixed classical with metal, but I guess it didn’t hit me until I saw it up close. NRFTW, NMT, & Ozzmosis didn’t have that sound.  Maybe Joe Holmes will make Ozzy’s new album more musical than Zakk Wylde did. Hopefully Ozzy will concentrate a bit more on studio albums than on Ozzfest in the new millennium. -Andrew

Neither did BatM or TUS. If you like classical stuff in your metal, you pretty much have to resort to the European bands. >  Maybe Joe Holmes will make Ozzy’s new album more musical than Zakk Wylde did. >Hopefully Ozzy will concentrate a bit more on studio albums than on >Ozzfest in the new millennium.

I’m not counting on those last two… >-Andrew

Response:

If you’ve seen the Behind The Music Ozzy episode, that one guy commented on Randy bringing in classical influences into heavy metal.

on Randy bringing in classical influences into heavy metal. I’d say he did. Other bands mixed classical with harder music(see Jethro Tull and some of the other prog bands of the 70’s), but in actual metal, I’d say he did it first.
