At the Texas State Fair they have Steve Martin doing his bird show every year and they have a YNA that sings seven songs-  two per show.  He does a pretty good job, but I’ll bet he couldn’t pass the pitch pipe test! — Kellie

I have a 3 yr old CAG that sings on key. Her favorite song is "Bird Is The Word." Another of her favorites is "Ya Yo Gak" by Steve Vai. She also mimmicks the guitar of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Lang, and Eric Johnson. She also likes to mimmick me when I am practicing. Whenever she wants to listen to music she’ll bob her head up and down and exclaim "Rock & Roll, Come On! Come On! Time To Rock & Roll!"

Eric Johnson and Steve Vai … you like *fast* guitarists. So does my son…in fact he has his own heavy metal band, and when they practice, our birds ALWAYS take a bath, followed by some INTENSE singing by the Amazon!!!! We always tease my son and his friends about how their *music* makes the birds take baths (it must sound about as good to them as the vacuum cleaner!)!!! BTW, Stevie Ray Vaughn was a big favorite of ours too…as is Eric Clapton. –Shirley

So, are you as good as Stevie Ray?  My husband once did a science project with Jimmy Vaughn, Stevie’s brother.  Impressed?  I’d love to hear your CAG demanding rock and roll! > —

Hahaahaaa! No, can’t say that I am. There was and will always be only one SRV. He is a great influence in my "style" as are several other guitarists, including Clapton >I’d love to hear your CAG demanding >rock and roll!

One of these days I’ll catch her on tape and make a WAV file of it. I’ll let you know when it’s available. The Mud-Duck 22Zero Seattle

Johnson & Vai are a couple of my favorites. Satriani, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, (old) Alvin Lee, etc. There are several others, but I don’t want to get too far off topic here. VBG Good luck to your son’s band! The Mud-Duck 22Zero Seattle

This sounds alot like my house. Yes I love the late, great Stevie Ray who was from Austin, Texas. There was a time when people could see him play in small local bars around here. Of course that did not last long as he became famous quickly. We have two new bands going to the Grammy’s this year. Fastball and I can’t recall the other band. Austin is booming with new musicians. I have two CAGs. I have no doubt they really likes singing and music. Occasionally one of my birds asks for "Judy" (Garland), I assume it’s one of his favorite cds. Both birds comment "that’s a pretty whistle." Both of them whistle the most complex songs, even classical themes, on key on beat. When it comes to singing, only one of them really tries regularly. The talkative one asks me to "sing song" several times a day– I think he got the idea from my singing bedtime songs to my godchildren. He repeats some of what he has heard, in a stunning monotone. His favorites are the scales "lalalalala",  "he’s a big pig, you can be a pig too!" from The Lion King –The other bird chimes in on this one with with an equally flat chorus of "he’s a pig too" over and over again.– Another favorite song of the talkative bird, Doc, is one he invented himself, "Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty Doc is a teacher." Of course it is rendered in the same  monotone as the others.  Today Doc surprised me. He actually sang a song about "pretty pretty pretty birds" with varied notes. It was the first time ever.   It must be possible. I haven’t met another CAG who asks for songs and reviews other birds whistles.

Yeah, mine whistles all the time too and "dances" when my son’s band is practicing in the garage (!), but he *does* try to sing things that he hears the YNA singing … just not anywhere *near* on key!!! I never really thought about it before, but maybe it’s unusual that he would sing *AT ALL*!!! > I rank the DYH at the top of the singer list, > with the Napes and Blue Fronteds close on  the Yellow Heads "heels".

I’ve seen DYHs and YNAs that are neck-in-neck for singing ability, but from what I’ve observed, the YNAs more frequently get the verses a little mixed up than DYHs! For example…my YNA *knows* and *can* sing all the first 4 lines of "Born to Be Wild" correctly, but on occasion, she mixes up the lines as such: "Get your motor runnin’ Lookin for the highway!" … or "Oh when the saints … go marchin in… I wanna BE THAT NUMBER! When the saints go marchin in." Just makes it all the more entertaining, IMO! My friend’s YNA sings "Oh Clementine" in its entirety w/no mistakes…but *she* is doing it for a peanut and that casts a whole new light on things! <G> –Shirley

My quaker sings two songs, but he carries a tune only marginally!  You can tell what he intends to sing, but he doesnt’ have perfect pitch by anu stretch of the imagination. — Kellie

Jambo, my BFA sings ALL the time, but the Greys have never even tried. I remember a survey done by BirdTalk a few years ago concluded that Greys just don’t have that particular talent, although there is always an individual bird here and there that "marches to a different drum."  :) — Mama —- "Mamabird’s  Nest" Visit my nest and meet my birds! http://members.tripod.com/~iluvbirds/ – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Just wondering if anyone out there has a CAG that can actually carry a >tune? Response:

I forgot to mention that even though my Greys have never shown the slightest inclination for singing, they DO seem to have some appreciation of music. When an upbeat song comes on the radio they will usually yell "BOOGIE!" while bobbing their heads in time to the music. — Mama —- "Mamabird’s  Nest" Visit my nest and meet my birds! http://members.tripod.com/~iluvbirds/ – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Just wondering if anyone out there has a CAG that can actually carry a >tune?
