Black Sabbath Win Grammy!

Question:

>Take heart, dear and fellow freaks.  At least they didn’t lose to >Jethro Tull for ‘Aqualung’.

I’d much rather Tull have won. Aqualung is a much better song than Iron Man. And if you don’t think Tull influenced metal, ask the host of European bands and prog-metal bands who list Tull as an influence. They shouldn’t have beat Metallica in ‘87, mainly cause the album they won for wasn’t heavy at all(even *Tull* admits they shouldn’t have won), but it still doesn’t mean they have no signifigance. >Hasta, y’all

Danny Shiflet "You, don’t have to wait, I’ll be too late, When you meet to jump off the edge. I’m not like you and I don’t wanna be, Follow the times to a place you can’t see Don’t call in doubt what the fashion may bring and you’ll be…falling down!"-Edguy, Falling Down

Avete, again!! I was not running down Tull, I love JT.  I was simply referring to the incident at the Grammys when Jethro Tull and Metallica were up for the same award (Tull for Aqualung, Metallica for …And Justice for All) and Jethro Tull WON!!!  Huge upset for Metallica fans, and was taken as a blatant snub by the Grammy Commission towards Metallica. By all rights, Metallica should have won, having a CURRENT album for the YEAR it was PRESENTED.  I AM NOT RUNNING ANYONE DOWN EXCEPT THE GRAMMY COMMISSION.  It was an old reference.  Forget about it.  Go on with your lives.  Do not panic.  Everything is under control. Let’s all take a deep breath….let it out slowly….maintain your center, and remember, it’s not that important.  It’s just a post.  It is only a post. Now, if there were some way to…disable certain pop stars…if only Tonya Harding were still working…oh well… Let the sun shine in, Fratres et Sorores!!! Sabbath won a GRAMMY!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! Later, freaks,

What’s wrong with Tull?  Sure, they’re not metal and Metallica should not have lost to them, but that’s not their fault.  They’re (Tull) still a good enough band.  I’d rather hear "Aqualung" than "One More Time."  Or for that matter, damn near any other Tull song. Not flaming you, I just can’t understand why some people have animosity towards Tull. >Hasta, y’all

>KEN, >Dio will never get a Grammy. HA-HA-HA Ozzfest >2001 will be way better than Hearing Aid 2 with >Dio.

Ken’s main point seemed to be that the press in general doesn’t care much for promoting the so called "metal genre" of music in general. Case in point; the mention of Sabbath’s win was scrolled down the margin of the screen along with relatively more obscure forms of music such as polka or new age. Yet, metal in general has a HUGE following, as the spectacular success of Ozzfest will attest. (There was a record-breaking attendance of *50,000* people at the Blockbuster Pavillion in So Cal during Ozzfest 1999, featuring Black Sabbath!!) Besides, regardless of the quantity of Dio’s album or ticket sales, to his credit, he’s managed to continue rocking within his own particular sound, maintaining an intensely loyal following. Nowadays, Ozzy and Dio can peacefully co-exist without the success of either one posing any sort of threat to the other. In fact, I think that as far as the promotion of music classified as metal or hard-rock goes, that if anything, they actually help each other indirectly, because they share many of the same type fans. Not only that, but for every media-hyped rock/metal band, there will be a greater number of musicians & bands signed to record labels in this category. That means, a larger amount of hard rock being played on radio stations and music video stations. Although a considerable number of metal fans and musicians may not completely trust or even desire the contamination of too much mainstream acceptance, such hard work and contributions still deserve to be acknowledged and rewarded. ~Suzanne

Congratulations to Sabbath on their Grammy Award victory on February 23! Iron Man – from the Reunion CD – received Best Metal Performance. However, I was disappointed that they did not televise this moment, nor was the band even mentioned during the broadcast, to the best of my knowledge. Instead, this information was briefly flashed along the left hand margin of the screen before a commercial break, along with photograph of Bill Ward, smiling and holding a trophy. ~Suzanne Webpage: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Pit/1139 {Altar Of Ozzy}

Just goes to show that this genre of music will never be willingly promoted unless it is in the negative side of the press–too bad. A lot of great things come from metal musicians besides music. Case in point, Ronnie James Dio had a huge success with Hear N Aid through the kind involvement of many great metal musicians. He will be doing so again with a Hear N Aid II project where Dio will do a tune called "Throw Away Children" and again involves some of the Metal genre’s elite.
