I just picked up my 97 Prelude this past monday and I cant say I notice any horrible wind noise….  My 95 Civic is worse, anyhow…  The only noise I somewhat dislike is the engine, which is a bit louder, but all I have to do is turn on the radio and I dont hear anything anyway. :)

Response:

I have not noticed the kind of wind noise you are referring to.  As a matter of fact my 97 Prelude SportShift is so much quieter and solid than my 94 Integra GSR.  Motor Trend stated in their tests that the 97 Prelude is actually one of the quietest cars they’ve tested and even compared it to a Lexus LS400 at freeway speed.  As for the engine noise (or more like music to my ears), I love that growl as the engine winds up past the VTEC point of 5500 rpms….<sigh>. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I’ve had my ‘97 Prelude for about a month now (already put 2300 miles > onto it!). > I love this card, but one thing I have found is that there is an awful > amount of wind noise in this car if I go anymore than about 50 miles an >hour. > And being a commuter who drives more along the lines of 80-90 mph on > average, it gets rather annoying! > I also have an ‘87 Prelude, and that model does not have this wind noise > problem at all.  One thing I noticed is that in the older ‘87 Prelude, > the rubber seals on the door and the rubber seals on the door frame come > together when the door is closed. > On the new ‘97 Prelude, the rubber on the door and the rubber on the door > frame do not come in direct contact when the door is closed.  Each rubber > part comes in contact with smooth painted metal…. > Anybody else have wind noise, or is perhaps mine the only one that does > this??? > It sounds like your in a four door car, and somebody has one of the rear > windows cracked a little bit (although not THAT loud!) > I would like to know if this is just my car, or perhaps all new Preludes > do this.  If it’s only mine, then I can go back and complain to the > dealer about it! >I just picked up my 97 Prelude this past monday and I cant say I notice any >horrible wind noise….  My 95 Civic is worse, anyhow…  The only noise I >somewhat dislike is the engine, which is a bit louder, but all I have to do >is turn on the radio and I dont hear anything anyway. :)

George, is this a true "whistling" type wind noise?  I have a ‘95 Prelude, and the wind noise is nil.  But those original equipment Michelin tires <sigh> are noisy as hell.  Try rolling down your window while driving next to a wall at speed and see if what you’re hearing isn’t your tires. There’s a LOT more rubber on the road in your new car than the old one. That’s part of the fun! but it’s also a noise maker. Chris Cummings

Response:

Or maybe that wind noise could be coming from those stupid non-aerodynamic ugly headlights that are more vertically inclined than the older generation smooth eagle eye headlighs!  :-) It is very simple experiment, stick your hand out the sunroof and raise it in a 90 degrees then compare the wind noise it makes when your hand is tilted 20 degrees instead! You got to admit that smoother looks also mean smoother rides! I’ve had my ‘97 Prelude for about a month now (already put 2300 miles onto it!). I love this card, but one thing I have found is that there is an awful amount of wind noise in this car if I go anymore than about 50 miles an hour. And being a commuter who drives more along the lines of 80-90 mph on average, it gets rather annoying! I also have an ‘87 Prelude, and that model does not have this wind noise problem at all.  One thing I noticed is that in the older ‘87 Prelude, the rubber seals on the door and the rubber seals on the door frame come together when the door is closed. On the new ‘97 Prelude, the rubber on the door and the rubber on the door frame do not come in direct contact when the door is closed.  Each rubber part comes in contact with smooth painted metal…. Anybody else have wind noise, or is perhaps mine the only one that does this??? It sounds like your in a four door car, and somebody has one of the rear windows cracked a little bit (although not THAT loud!) I would like to know if this is just my car, or perhaps all new Preludes do this.  If it’s only mine, then I can go back and complain to the dealer about it! —                                       //     nobody saw me do it,   — Bart  George Bako                         // you can’t prove anything!     Simpson
