Question:
I was wondering which matters more when it comes to loudness/power. I am buying an amp for home use and in the price of $300…..I play hardcore music so I want some good sustain and distortion(LOT’s O’ POWER!) please post suggestions. thanks, shaggy

Go play with the Peavey Classic 30… Very attractive… Effects loop… Reverb… All tube design… 2 channels, a pre-post gain and a "clean" channel… 1×12 inch Speaker… Plays very loud!!! Sounds really good too… What do you call "hardcore" ? Metallica? Korn? Tool? if so, then $300 isnt gonna get you in that level. But it will be enough to damage your hearing in your bedroom or garage or basement. Put the animals outdoors and use earplugs if you turn this baby past 3! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >I was wondering which matters more when it comes to loudness/power. The speaker (or cabinet if more than one speaker) must handle enough WATTS so it doesn’t get fried. It’s OHMS has to match the amp’s expectations so that you get maximum power and don’t risk frying the amp. For size I recommend either 10’s or 12’s. Also, a closed-back cabinet will give you more bass than an open-back one. Some speakers are just more efficient than others, producing more sound for the same input power (i.e. the same amp). This efficiency cannot be directly determined by it’s impedance (ohms) nor by it’s power capacity (watts), or even it’s size. Though in general 12’s are louder than 10’s. One speaker that impressed me with it’s efficiency is the Celestion Vintage 30 but I’m sure there are others. It almost goes without saying that if you want it loud, you also need a powerful amp.
