If I remember correctly from teenage days, the only requirements for skinheads are shaved heads and punk attitudes. Some are hateful all-white groups (known to wear red laces in their doc martens – the boot many punks like to wear to exercise their *individualism* ). Others, called "SHARPies", I think, are skinheads against racial prejudice, and not really a bad lot if you can stand the music and clothes that they are so fond of. I was friends with a few of these in high school and they were generally very amiable, open-minded people. As it stands, skinhead culture started during the 1960s in England. Not to be sarcastic, but I’m speaking of England in the United Kingdom, Great Britain. At this time there were other cultures going (i.e. mods, rockers etc) The Skinhead culture was based around the Jamaican Rude Boys. Not the National Front (far right organisation). Basically skins then and now were Black, White, and Asian. Basically they all shared a common interest in music. A little while later, some gentleman decided to adopt the Skinhead culture (the look only) and attribute this to the poor white working- class male. This was how the lovely National Front was created. As with most British culture, the skinhead name became bastardized all because of a minority of racists. Suprisingly, the National Front then split up because one of there then founders was a closet homosexual. This was not on with the rest of the group, which later became the British National Party. People would probably be more inclined to take you seriously if you used a real name and email address, but if you’re really interested in skinheads you should read the FAQ… i would give you the url but it changed recently and i don’t remember it, but the FAQ is posted on this newsgroup (alt.skinheads) every so often, so stick around and you’ll eventually see it.
