i enjoy mike macIvor’s playing of candiria, good bass lines and able to really play(more jazzy tracks). also enjoy the drummers work (ken schalk, he did the bass tracks before they got an actual bassist)… -np:primus-electric uncle sam=- werd is bond -hjeff napster-flange718

Word up.. I second Andrew Weiss in both Rollins Band and Ween! Good stuff! For a good Rollins album with some great lines from Weiss, check out "End of Silence". It’s a great example of creative bass lines for the style of music. Also, Flea started out in punk rock. Jordan – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Andrew Weiss (Henry Rollins and Ween).

Nate Mendel – Sunny Day Real Estate (his Foo Fighters work isn’t as great, but the SDRE albums are amazing!) Karl Alvarex – ALL/Descendents (I know he’s already been mentioned, but he rocks!) Bill Barbot – Burning Airlines (former guitar player for Jawbox turned bassist for this project and he’s incredible!)

Man, you mentioned the same two I was thinking of when I read your subject line. Also, the fellas from suicide machines, < Jake, and The vandals are all pretty good, but not Matt (rancid) Freeman calibur. He’s the guy who inspired me to learn bass in the first place. -Ryan

i think fred erskine from hoover, crownhate ruin, and june of ‘44 is an incredible bassist. his ability to construct a groove in 5/4 or 7/4 time is amazing. steve * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

Yeah, Matt Freeman is THE BOMB. Makes Rancid sound a whole lot better than they would otherwise.

one of the best things about hardcore(/ and /-/)punk is that aptitude and technique dont really matter. sloppy four chord songs can be awesome if they give off the right energy, emotion, and attitude (depending on tastes of course). skill can be an added bonus in some cases. a really good bassist whose work stands out is jason black of hot water music. check out fuel for the hate game as a point of reference. — ben
