Marshall JCM 2000 TSL

Question:

I am considering purchasing a JCM 2000 TSL.  I have spent some time playing through this amp and like it so far.  I am, as always, a little leary of throwing down that much cash and being dissappointed in the long run.  Is there anyone that plays this amp, either past or present, and can give an honest opinion on this amp? It can be negative or positive…I’m looking for both.  I’d GREATLY appreciate it! Rick —

Response:

Hi, Have one here with 1960AV half stack. Does the job A-OK. No amp in this world is perfect, so you have to make do. Try two channel version as well before you decide. Some say two channel verson sounds little warmer. That really depends on your style of music. I didn’t think it had enough gain for death metal, but would sound fine for "regular" metal! On the other hand, one of the guys in Deeds of Flesh, a brutal death metal band, uses the DSLversion (same basic tone) and is satisfied with it. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Although I don’t own one, I’ve played through them enough to know that this is the amp I’m saving up for.  Not the TSL60, but the TSL100.  You may be able to get the power tube overdrive at lower sound levels with the 60, but I’d rather have the seperate eq for each channel that the TSL100 has. My $.02. –Tony >I am considering purchasing a JCM 2000 TSL.  I have spent some time playing >through this amp and like it so far.  I am, as always, a little leary of >throwing down that much cash and being dissappointed in the long run.  Is >there anyone that plays this amp, either past or present, and can give an >honest opinion on this amp? This is what really pissed me off about the TSL60. I can’t understand why Marshall just didn’t use the TSL10 pre-amp as is, with a 60 watt power section. Why did they scale back on pre-amp features in the TSL60. It probaby cost them MORE to to that..it certainly cost them sales.

Response:

I agree with the other poster here about the "two channel version". I had ‘em both, and the DSL, I thought was better – certainly warmer. Don’t get me wrong – both are fine but I feel the DSL just sounded better  (lovely clean sound too) Certainly try the DSL anyway before you buy……but if you go for the TSL, for the type of amp it is, it’s a good one. Most definitely.  If it came to preferences, I would rather have the 60 if it weren’t for the lack of another eq.  In fact, I probably would have bought it by now.  But if someone comes out with a better amp (for my preferences) before I can buy the TSL100, I will buy it.  But, for now, I’m still aiming for this amp. I just think it’s interesting that when I posted for opinions on this amp all I got were negative reviews. Now all these latest responses seem to LOVE the amp.

Response:

Hi, That’s common thing. People tend to love what they have. So if you like TSL100 you gotta have it. I have one too. Well I have bunch of other amps/combos as well which I like them all for a reason. I can/do build amps. I don’t think it is nice when some one asks about something all they do is bashing instead of giving some constructive opinion straying the subject off course.
