What's up with the Joe Holmes Bashing?

Question:

>That’s because there is this contingent of loser wanna-be guitar-gods out

there that just can’t accept the fact that it’s 2000 and not still 1989. They would rather worship guitar players that run around like maniacs, with long hair and all flash.. but no substance whatsoever…guitar players that rely on effects for their only crutch. Have you ever heard Kai Hansen, Luca Turilli, Andre Olbrich, Randy Rhoads, Mike Denner, Andy La Rocque, Sascha Paeth, Thilo Hermann, or so many of the other truly amazing players out there? Players who are extremely talented is what I prefer. Does Joe have it? We’ll just have to wait and see. Personally, I’m not counting on it. But I’ll wait and see… > Perfect example is Ozzy’s previous guitarist. What a hack! >If this guy is such a god, then why can’t he sell any CD’s?

Because the masses are morons. If they don’t recognize the name(and believe me, most "fans" of bands these days can’t tell you any of the members besides the singer, and *maybe*, just maybe, the lead guitarist), they won’t buy it. Many people know Ozzy, but many of his "fans" couldn’t tell you who played guitar on any of his albums, or for that matter, who played in Black Sabbath either. The people on the group know, but believe me, we’re an extremely small minority. > Where is his fan support?

He’s not a "big name". He doesn’t get radio or MTV exposure, thus, he isn’t trendy, thus, he doesn’t sell except among the real fans. > He’s only sold close to 4,000 copies of his latest release (worst CD >of 1999 BTW – someone should tell him to save some beer money and hire a >producer next time). Nobody goes to his shows either. Latest tour didn’t even >last more than 2 weeks in the U.S.

I can think of a *lot* of bands who are vastly superior to any of Ozzy’s post Blizzard/Diary lineups that haven’t toured the US at all, so that’s irrelevant. > If these imbeciles would just wake up and realize it’s not 1989 anymore…

Who are these people you speak of BTW? The only person who keeps talking about "1989" is you. Just cause it’s 2000 doesn’t mean people aren’t allowed to want a guitarist with skill… > and get over the fact that Ozzy has ALWAYS changed guitar players every

few years… then they’d have nothing to complain about. This is true at least, Ozzy’s never had a stable lineup. >Oh.. and I guarantee that no matter how good this upcoming CD is, there will >still be losers whining and complaining how they want their fave back. Too

bad. And likewise, no matter how crappy it may be, there will still be a contingent who hail it and speak of how brilliant it is. Because he is a Randy Rhoads wanna-be, but he’ll never be.

Over the past couple of weeks,  many people on this ng have been downplaying Joe Holmes.  I just wonder "why?"  Ozzy hasn’t even released any studio material with him playing yet. But somehow people find a way to criticize him. From what I’ve seen, he doesn’t sound that bad.  I like the medley he plays during "Suicide Solution", covering opening riffs of "Symptom", "Diary", "Over the Mountain", and "Believer" to name a few.  How can the anti-Holmes delegation undermine Ozzy’s judgement in choosing guitar players?  After all Ozzy’s worked with some of the best in the world, Iommi, Rhoads, Wylde, to name a few.  Yet we can throw elbows at Holmes, who hasn’t even released anything with Ozzy yet to fully examine his original sound. Joe Holmes was one of Randy Rhoads’ students, and although he may not be as good as Randy, he certainly likes to bring Rhoads’ material with Ozzy out more than some of Ozzy’s previous guitar players.  My message to you: Go see Ozzy, have a good time, drink some beer, and don’t concentrate on being to cynical on whoever Ozzy’s gutiar player is.
