You’re in a way wrong about Technical Ecstasy. It IS really a GREAT album and THE last great Sabbath album with Ozzy.(my opinion) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> When "Technical Ecstasy" came out it was panned by a majority of the > [snip] > could also be said that this was the last quality recording by the > original band as "Never Say Die" was pretty much mailed in by a bunch > Just thought I’d throw in my $.02 about NSD. I have to agree. While TE has it’s moments, it pales when compared to previous albums. The production is ok as are the arrangements. I think that it is actually the music they selected to play that cause it have a lower standing than the previous albums. I fell like NSD made up for this mistake a bit, though it does seem to be a fragmented album almost divided into four sections, one for each member. I’m not sure which member gets credit for Air Dance though. Speaking of this album, Has anyone transcribed the lyrics for Dave Walker’s version of Junior’s Eyes?

Just thought I’d throw in my $.02 about NSD. I like it a lot! Sure, the band hated each other, but so did the Beatles during the White Album, and that’s arguably their best work. I look at TE and NSD as albums to be judged more with Sabbath discs in the past 10 years or so. If you forget it’s Balck Sabbath, it’s not bad; but compare them to previous Sabbath, and it’s poor. I’d have to rank Sabotage the last GREAT Sabbath disc, not TE.

When "Technical Ecstasy" came out it was panned by a majority of the critics and a lot of fans were not happy with it. The Sabs were in a very tumultuous state (legally and internally). The album was considered to polished and over produced. However, in retrospect, it is an extremely good recording where some experiments were taken. It could also be said that this was the last quality recording by the original band as "Never Say Die" was pretty much mailed in by a bunch of guys who were ready to kill each other. I bought that album from a "Sam Goody" in NYC for $5.98 when it came out, man how times have changed! rrhoads

Yes and no. There is some good music and a couple of great tracks like Gypsy and Dirty Women. The downfall was that it had some of they tried to change direction instead of sticking to thier guns, lyrically. It is probably the happiest album you will ever hear from this bunch. Well maybe not happy, but it does somewhat lack balls compared to the previous six albums. At this time they were producing themselves and although there is nothing wrong technically the song writing and lyrics took the hit mostly IMO.

As far as whether to get it or not, I would say if you have the first six BS,Paranoid,MOR,SBS,and Sabotage, then you could get this as the next logical one in line. Or you could skip on to Heaven and Hell,MR,BA. Once you have those I would say this is tied with Seventh Star and Never Say Die as the next to get. Then get Sabbath Stones (compilation) which show cases Tony Martin mostly although it does have cuts by Gillan and Hughes on it. You might want to get this one for a taste of 83 on to 95.
