IMHO, that’s Ozzy’s worst thing ever!!!!

Response:

Dose anybody know why Ozzy dose not sing the second half of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath on Speak of the Devil or OzzybloodyOzzy.  I noticed also in the video on the Black Sabbath Story they also don’t have it.  Why is this half of the song so neglected by bolth Ozzy & Tony?

Beavis? Is that you? Listen dude, just forget it. I don’t know whether you don’t like Iommi or are defending Gillis, or what your deal is. I like them both personally. I just don’t know how anybody could have attended Ozzfest and not been enthralled by everybody on that stage when Sabbath hit. I wasn’t at Pittsburgh, but I saw them in Camden, NJ. Tony is one of the most consistent players anywhere, sometimes I think he  never has an off night, but I’m sure it is possible. If you don’t like Tony, what you are doing in an Ozzy newsgroup is beyond me. What you were doing at Ozzfest is beyond me. In my case,I used to be a Randy freak almost exclusively as some people on this newsgroup know. He is probably always going to be my favorite player, and I have worked at learning every solo he has ever done, in some cases unsuccesfully. Interestingly, in those early 80’s days I had only heard like Paranoid and Iron Man as far as Sabbath went, which were done in 1970 for christ’s sake. I liked them, but it wasn’t until I saw Tony on stage from the 2nd row on the Mob Rules tour that I realized just how mind-blowing he was. I could go on and point out things that people know about his playing that are just incredible but it might just be trying to sell something to you that isn’t wanted. All I can tell you, as a guy who has played guitar since 1975 myself, is that if he hasn’t hit you, just keep listening, and keep buying more Sabbath records, cause he is one of the most unique and fucking amazing players in history I think. Just about a week ago I sat and tried to learn the solo to "Sick and Tired" and I just couldn’t believe how hard it was, he doesn’t play in patterns, he throws in the wierdest shit, I just love the guy, what can I say? If on a desert Island and I had Blizzard, Diary, Tribute, and a bunch of Iommi, I’d be sound! Ken

That is sad you would think like that. Of all guitarists I have seen over the years I have always been amazed at how perfect Tony plays live, and here you are "making fun" of him. Of course we all make mistakes. My favorite guitarist is RR but when I listen to the version of Paranoid on Tribute and realize he reallly screwed up the rythym parts that night, the last thing on my mind is "making fun" of him. I don’t know when the last time you played a 30,000 seater was, but things happen, monitors go out, sound gets screwed up, any number of things can happen. Anyway, why don’t you make us a tape of yourself playing the Lonely is the Word solo, or Immaculate Deception, or christ I could name 100, just make us a tape and then we’ll see who should be made fun of. Asswipe, have respect! Ken

If I am not mistaken, Ozzy recorded ‘Speak of the Devil’ due to a contractual obligation and he could not get out of it.  He didn’t want to release anything like ‘Tribute’ at the time, because of the shock of RR’s death, and the fear that people would accuse him of trying to ‘cash in’ on RR’s death. <snipity snip> >Ken

Look assneck, I witnessed Tony totally hack up Iron Man, to the point where Ozzy was clapping the beat to him so he could catch up with the rhythm section…At Ozzfest in Pittsburgh, Tony flubbed that and Sweet Leaf!!!!So don’t try to tell me what I heard, I had 2nd row seats, and me and my friend were making fun of him, because even I don’t fuck up Iron Man like that.  So obviously you weren’t at the Pittsburgh show.

What do you mean it was a reach?  That album was great!!!!  I think it was a great way for Ozzy to deal with the death of Randy, to start jammin’ again and not worrying about who can and can’t do Randy’s stuff…and as far as Brad Gillis goes, he plays closer to Iommi than Iommi did himself at the Ozzfest!!!!

I mean it was stretching it a bit to think that Gillis or anybody else could capture all those old songs. Even Iommi didn’t put out an album with nothing but Ozzy-era tunes. I just never understood why Oz bothered with that album, it isn’t *that* bad, I just don’t think of it as a highpoint for him. > That album was great!!!!<<

If that album was great then DOM must be so incredible that to listen to it will cause your head to explode! >  I think it was a >great way for Ozzy to deal with the death of Randy, to start jammin’ again >and >not worrying about who can and can’t do Randy’s stuff.<<

I’m not a big Gillis fan, but he learned Randy’s stuff fine, I don’t think Ozzy has had much trouble finding guys to play Randy’s stuff. Finding guys to create like that’s another matter, and nobody he’s had comes close imo. >..and as far as Brad >Gillis goes, he plays closer to Iommi than Iommi did himself at the >Ozzfest!!!!

That makes a total of, count: ZERO, ZERO fucking sense. Iommi played those tunes almost exactly like the albums at Ozzfest, everybody has talked about it. He had for years really expanded the solos in the old tunes on stage, but he really went back to playing them like the albums at Ozzfest. Just what the hell do you mean? Maybe you went to get beer during the Sabbath set, that’s about the only explanation you can give to justify this, that or you are totally deaf. Ken

In my understanding of this album, is that Ozzy only did it because of contractual obligations, and that he has never listened to the album.  It’s very cool that you like it, I also think it was one of the best albums released that year :)
