Oh yeah, he’ll still be around. 22 thousand years from now, Ozzy will still be around. You might not be able to see him, but he’ll be around.

Thanks for the news, man. I’m glad you had a good time. :) Hail Satan! 666

The concert last night at the Saddle Dome in Calgary was a lot of fun. [I arrive at 7:00 PM] One negative aspect of the experience is that they frisked everyone and they confiscated a pocket knife that I usually carry around.  Now, I’m supposed to go to the police station and pick it up later on today. [7:30-8:00 PM] The first opening act was Voivod.  They played around 5 songs, I didn’t recognize any of them except for "Astronomy Domine".  To be honest, I didn’t find them to be particularly good. [8:15-8:45 PM] The second opening act was Finger 11.  I’ve never heard of them but they seemed to be very popular with the crowd. [8:50 PM] a DJ from the local rock station was telling us that Ozzy was coming on in just a few minutes.  Of course he shilled his station. [8:58 PM] While Ozzy’s band was performing the sound check, Ozzy (presumably from the back of the stage) was exhorting the crowd to scream very loud when he comes on. [9:00 PM] The opening fanfre begins (the same one you hear at the beginning of the Tribute album).  Ozzy comes to a huge pop onstage.  The songlist was: War Pigs Mr. Crowley Believer Flying High Again I Don’t Know Gets Me Through Goodbye To Romance The Wizard After Forever Into The Void Fairies Wear Boots Fire In The Sky Suicide Solution No More Tears I Don’t Want To Change The World Road To Nowhere Crazy Train Mama I’m Coming Home N.I.B. Paranoid Concert ended at 11:00 PM. I really enjoyed the Black Sabbath montage in the middle of the show.  I like Ozzy solo stuff, but it doesn’t even come close to the classic Sabbath stuff in terms of musical goodness.  The band was very tight, although I think they made a few mistakes on "Paranoid".  Ozzy’s voice did crack a few times during "No More Tears" but he sounded in top form for the rest of the songs.  Zakk did a guitar solo after "Suicide Solution" and he picked the guitar strings with his teeth–what a showoff ;) When I went to the concert, I thought that the crowd would be a mix of old Sabbath die-hards and newcomers.  I would say that 90% of the crowd were people in their late teens or early 20’s.  I felt old (at 29) amongst such a young crowd.  I was also expecting 95% of the crowd to be male, but I would say that the male-female ratio was around 70-30.  Although I did not drink alcohol (which was being sold at $6.50 a cup!!!) or do drugs, I woke up this morning with a marijuana headache (due to contact exposure).  I think I saw security guards beat up some of the rowdier fans on the stage level area (I sat in the front row of the second tier directly across the stage). Aside from getting my pocket knife taken away, I had a lot of fun.  I think that my expectations were exceeded considering Ozzy’s relatively advanced age (54).  I don’t know if he’ll still be around 10 years from now. Next stop for the Ozzy Canadian tour is Edmonton on Friday.  Calgary is a rather conservative, white-collar city while Edmonton is its freewheeling, blue-collar counterpart.  The crowd will probably be much wilder there, I wish the fans and the security up north in Edmonton a good time ;)
