Reception Music?

Question:

Please don’t.  I went to a reception such as this where the bride and groom had a stack of heavy metal/hard rock tapes to be played. They were truly baffled why people were just sitting in their seats doing nothing (too loud to talk over and very undancable for the majority of people).   By mid reception the bride was in near tears because of the party, while obviously to their tastes, did not suit the bulk of the guests and headed for flopdom.  We ended up digging up a few danceable songs which were played repetitively. — | To email me, write to jmhinds at mindspring dot com               |                                                                                                   | Check out my web page! http://www.mindspring.com/~thinds/jmh/     | | Wedding receptions, menus and proportions: http://www.mindpsring. | | com/~thinds/jmh/wedinfo.htm                                       |

We have the same dilemma, although my fiance is into much harder stuff than I am.  We’re considering reserving "our" music for the last 1/2 hour or so of the (evening) reception, and we won’t have it played so loud you can’t talk over it. Elaine (&Trent 7/4/98)

Well I think maybe one or two songs. However if your posing this question my   guess is that the majority of your guests are not Metal fans.  I consider myself somewhat open to most forms of music. But while I like some metal, some is just too much. I like GnR, Metalica, some Maryln Manson etc., and have been listening to   people/bands like Hendrix, Grateful Dead, Clapton, and Led Zepplin, most all my life. So if I have a short tolerance for some metal, think how a guest like my father will react. Of course you should be able to have some of "your music" at your wedding.  Realize, however, that like everything else you must also try and cater to your guests.  If you invited all vegetarians to your wedding you wouldn’t serve them prime rib, would you?
