Question:
>Are these as good as the regular brake pads?
The kevlar pads are superior and less dusty. Orphaned
Response:
Two choices: 1: Move to the frozen north. Not only am I unable to wash my car by hand because all of my faucets would freeze if they were on this time of year, but there is so much salt residue on the rest of the car that it is filthy within 1 day of visiting the carwash anyway. 2: Put on PBR Deluxe (not PBR Metalmasters unless you intend to do some track time) pads from www.Bavauto.com (also in the frozen north). I put them on 2 years ago and kick myself for not doing it when the car was new. MUCH less dust. In fact, after the car is coated with salt, the wheels are the only clean part! Good luck.

I just got a new 325i and the dealer said there would be brake pad dust on the wheels for a while then it would go away. I’m not really technical (yet) when it comes to cars – just thought I would pass along the comment. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Any ideas how to eliminate/reduce brake dust on my wheels? Yeah, it’ll go away…when the lining is gone and you’re stopping with metal on metal. I’m not an authority (don’t even own a Bimmer–yet), but that sounds like a load of dealer BS to me. — Aron Nopanen

Suggest to this dealer that what he told you is total bullshit and that it gives you cause to rethink who does the service on your car … — C.R. Krieger "Ignore ‘em m’dear, they’re beneath your dignity." – W.C. Fields

Visible rotors and calipers ugly?? Blasphemy! > and the black metal of the Kleen-Shields covers that nicely.
To each his own, I guess….
Response:
Maybe you already do this, but after you wash your wheels, get a towel (not the same one you use for the body, get a junky towel you don’t care about getting dirty) and dry it well.

Any ideas how to eliminate/reduce brake dust on my wheels? I just washed it and drove about 10 miles and the brake dust was all over the wheels as if I’d never washed it. I applied 3 coats of my wax, hoping this would reduce the amount on the wheels but obviously it did no good. I have contemplated putting on the brake dust shields and was wondering if anyone has had problems with shields. I’ve read that the shields causes damage to the rotors as it increases heat build up. Any suggestions? I’m getting tired of washing these wheels EVERYDAY! Thanks!!
Response:
I had the breakdust shield on my car for a while, i doubt it would have much affect on the rotor getting hoter and damanging them, i only removed them as they gave the wheel a ugly look.

I’ve had Kleen-Shields (I think the spelling is correct) on a Corvette and an LS400 since 1992 and 1993, respectively, with no problems whatsoever. They are completely effective and worth the thirty bucks a pair they cost. As for their being ugly, well that is an eyes of the beholder thing. I personally think that brake calipers and rotors visible through the wheels are ugly, especially when dirty, and the black metal of the Kleen-Shields covers that nicely. Mostly you don’t even notice they are there. They will be on the next car I buy, as well. – GRL
