actually castration is a very easy way to settle someone down. the removal of testoster…ah..(i can’t spell-not the nuts) makes a male become a lot less territorial and sexually active. August 14, 2001 Press Release from Yngwie’s Management Yngwie Malmsteen has assembled a 100% new band which will first be heard on the upcoming South American Tour (Sept 12 – 30, 2001). If the chemisty of this team gels, this line-up may appear on the next studio album. We are very excited about this new band unit, says Mike. Doogie White (Rainbow) – Vocals Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Kiss, Alice Cooper) – Keyboards Mick Cervino (Blackmore’ s Night) – Bass Patrik Johansson (Stormwind) – Drums
With all those notes he plays, how did he find time to form a new band. No objection to Derek Sherinian, but the only Alice Cooper band that really mattered never included him to the best of my knowledge. any garage band mixing two weeks experience and a Gibson Les Paul/Marshall half-stack. on the inverse, I can think of a few bands with good music but horrible tone.
>Can anyone think of some artists/bands that have a great tone or >sound but put out less than great music?
Sure. <insert name of this week’s country sensation here> -Bob
Restricting the field to professional bands, I would have recount a recent concert where Billy Squier appeared. They rolled out several vintage Gibsons, had great tone, but absolutely sucked. What a waste of good gear and tone.

I gotta agree. Some people like them, but I never saw the appeal of that band. And one year for Christmas, I got the same damn Kiss Lp from both of my brothers, and I hated Kiss. So I’m wangin away on some tune Sunday night… playing some crunch rythym while everyone else is singing or ripping… and my volume starts gettting louder and louder… I keep turning it down and thinking … Am I hitting And I really starting liking this beast…. And when I take a solo I dime the volume and It is REALLY LOUD…!!!! Right away I’m thinking… great… the thing is "on the blink" already… and a peice of equipment that is sitting on my amp has been sliding off and I usually have it…!!!! Eveyone in the band got a laugh out of it…. So… when was the last time any of you played " Telephone is Ringing" by Alice Cooper…. at a gig…??? We did a kick-ass version last night and So nothings really new..Eh..??!! Gtski

I’ve wanted to do that one or years. In fact I’d like to do the whole _Killer_ album ("Halo of Flies" and all). Closest I’ve come is doing a bluegrass arrangement of "I’m Eighteen." -Scott McKnight (BTW – The correct title or tha tune would be "Under My Wheels").

Lots of great stuff on Killer (actually his whole early career). "Be My Lover" on that Lp was a Pop music masterpiece "She struts into the room Well I don’t know her…" I would almost be worth joining a band again just to cover a few old Coop songs. Pete — Hey! I’ve been recommending this strap for years. It’s a pretty unassuming strap that’s supports heavy basses very well and pretty much eliminates neck dive. Mine came with my fretless. I need help with my new amp. I just got a Mesa Single Recto solo head, and a 2×12 closed back Recto Cab with it. Right of the bat with my Les Paul I could not really nail the type of distortion I was looking for, even on the Lead/Modern channel. So I put a new Duncan Distortion in the bridge and did notice a considerable difference in sound. I since added an old Boss 7band EQ in the FX loop and it helped also. Bear in mind though this is my first tube amp, and have always played it at real low volumes like 2. I’m trying to get a real tight distortion(compariable to say Godsmack, I hate using bands for comparision). Basically what i’m asking is: 1. Would cranking this amp either with the actual volumes or adding a Hotplate make this amp sound better?. Am I striving for a sound that can be reached unless cranked or antenuated? 2. How similar is the voicing of this amp compared to a Dual Rectifier?, can I achieve those tones from the 50w single package? 3. Does anyone out there that currently has a Single Rectifier have any tips for me? 4. And finally, did I make the right amp choice, Cause I do like how it sounds, I just cant nail that real tight crunch, mabye I’m too picky. Thanks, O’neill…

Yeah, fuck that EQ pedal, waste of money, and effects loops are a loopy idea. You gotta crank that mother to get a good sound. An attenuator is a great idea! One huge problem is that you bought an amp that wants to be CRANKED, and if you don’t use the thing above 2, you might have never heard this puppy working yet. >2. Not even close… that’s your whole problem. If you want that new kiddie rock type of sound that’s so popular these days, you have to have a Dual Rectifier. Make sure you get Boss Heavy Metal pedal to put in front of it also.

Mesas take time… and experimentation.. 1st.. Vintage 30s need at least 20 -30 hours of play time to settle in! Yep.. breaking ‘m in takes a while. 2nd.. No one but you can decide if you made the right choice.. personal experience.. Had a Tremoverb and loved it! Then started reading and listening to others and embarked on a very long 2 year journey buying and selling gear… only to wind up ordering a new one.. go figure 3rd.. This stuff.. getting your sound requires talking to others… Peace, Dan

I have to agree with PMG on this. I use a Hot Plate with a VHT Pittbull (another amp that "wants to be cranked") and it’s the only way that I’ve been able to really make the amp sing. The amp sounds great without it, however, to really get to that power tube OD you have to turn the volume up past half way. Get a Hot Plate. Max

The way I look at Alice Cooper, once he did songs like "Mr And Misdemeanor" and "Refrigerator Heaven" way early in his career, that pretty much ended all competition to his demented crown, and then you follow his career into his more popular albums, and you got things like "Ballad of Dwight Fry", "Under My Wheel’s, "Be My Lover"!!!!(need html here) "She struts into the room, well I don’t know her, with a magnifying glance, I just sort of looked her over…" Marilyn who? > But I doubt that > he’s on smack, he’s doing too good a job of selling his shit to be on > smack. >Some people cope better than others. >-Miles

In general Cooper up to Billion Dollar Babies is my all time favorite guitar group. Nothing flashy, just solid GOOD guitar sounds. Simple leads, nice tone, and GOOD rhythms. Saw Alice and da boys quite a bit in the early 70s.

Alice had the best snear to his voice that I ever heard. I pretty much like all his stuff that he did with his original band. After that band was gone, something just wasn’t working, for me that is. Pete — I have eaten my own head rather than listen to that horrible music –Pvt. Phineas Halberstam

Most of this stuff is old news. That Stairway/Taurus thing though….that’s a new one on me. I just did a quick napster download of the Spirit tune, and while I wouldn’t call the Stairway intro a note-for-note ripoff, it is pretty similar. =Bob — If you buy any music gear through Ebay or the web, please see this story about my experience with Boston Guitar Works / Brockton Music Works. http://bostonguitar.cjb.net

There’s nothing even remotely disturbing in that article, maybe unless you were born in the last 30 seconds. All this is very normal for Rock and Blues bands IMO. "Thieving Magpies" (part of the article’s title) was I believe an expresion the author stole from Jeff Beck for what it’s worth, it’s an expresion I steal from Jeff on a regular basis to describe Ebay. It’s also pretty biased. The author seems so disgusted at Page that he refuses to acknowledge what Zep did with those songs. A HUGE percentage of music is derivative; it’s what you do with it that counts. And Zep did a great job of pulling new versions from old. They even swiped teh chord progression from 25 or 6 to 4 for one of their songs – but it sure wasn’t the same song. (Was that original with Chicago?) That said, yeah, it really stinks that Page, et al, ripped off a bunch of other artists for recognition and royalty. -Miles
nothing even remotely disturbing ? Led Zeppelin is freakin Milli Vinilli for gods sake. I agree, theft of intellectual property from american blues musicians is a time honored tradition, but they (page/zep) took it to a new level ! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> fans may want to sit down first > http://www.furious.com/perfect/jimmypage.html > There’s nothing even remotely disturbing in that article, maybe unless > you were born in the last 30 seconds. He’s probably referring to the middle section of "Babe I’m Gonna leave You", which is about as close to the Chicago tune as anyone’s gonna get. Only problem with that is that Zeppelin released "Babe…" in 1969, Chicago released "25 or 6 to 4" in 1970. Ugh. I’ve never visited an online pharmacy, myself. The reputable ones have testified before Congress (I got stuck on C-SPAN one day because of this) that they’d never allow such things, and only proper prescriptions from proper doctors would be accepted. With only voluntary checks in place, though, it’s kinda hard to tell the reputable from non-. Of course, any site which gives you medical advice based on a questionaire, or would allow you to write your own prescription, automatically falls into the "non" category. But this isn’t the question, is it? I’m sure many of us would enjoy side-stepping the doctor, and saying "oh, I feel like trying XYZ drug today." Given the serious side-effects that can occur with many of the drugs we use, you’d have to be prepared to withstand the tongue- lashing you’d get from a doctor if you had any problems, though. :) – Dave W.

Welcome to the group. First (and I think best) advice: go see a doctor, preferrably a dermatologist, and preferrably one’s who’s got experience diagnosing and treating psoriasis, and get a proper diagnosis for your condition. "Itchy and red scalp" can be a number of things. Psoriasis usually comes with flakes, too. Extremely few of us here are doctors, and those who are would be acting in a highly unethical manner by trying to diagnose you via Usenet or email. I think that both the location (scalp) and itchyness may indicate a possibility of something besides psoriasis. Please consider doing this simple experiment to see if something has taken up residence in your scalp. Pick any dandruff shampoo that you like that also contains pyrithione zinc (Head & Shoulders, Zincon, Selsun Blue, DHS Zinc, etc., or any of their generic competitors). This ingredient is a very active, broad spectrum antimicrobial agent (effective against both bacteria and fungi). It also has the very useful property of being soluable in skin oils, while being almost insoluable in water, so it is left behind after you rinse the shampoo off. However, simply shampooing with it is not very effective. To deliver a really effective dose, you need to coat your dry scalp with a thick layer of shampoo and let it soak in for a while (up to a half hour). Do not just scrub it on your hair in the shower for a half hour. This will just remove all the oil form your skin, and the oil is what you want to leave behind (but poisoned). Then wash it out and rinse very thoroughly, so the detergent doesn’t make you itch. Pyrithione zinc stays in your scalp for a while, so it is probably not necessary to repeat more then every other day. If it is going to help, you will notice a big reduction in the itching by the next day. If you see no improvement after two or three exposures, then you can be pretty sure that you are not carrying around any uninvited guests. Best wishes. If you decide to try this, I am interested in hearing how it turns out. Thanks. John Popelish
