Ozzy & MTV

Question:

You are doubting how many Ozzy fans are out there. I think we can do it, even if there aren’t as many sabbath and ozzy fans out there as there are teenyboppers and backdoor boys fans, we could still do it. Would anyone be kind enough to help me find a mass mailer and get this thing started? Also, pick a date. I believe we can do this.

Response:

There was a time when mtv always played no more tears and you could be mine by gnr like 10 times a day.  They also played enter sandman a lot.  ahh, those were my glory days. — Omar

Making the assumption these tapes are avalible. :) I own four Ozzy tapes – Don’t Blame Me, Wicked Videos, Ultimate Ozzy and Live and Loud.  Although there are videos on these, there is no video with all of his videos.  No "Bark at the Moon," no "Back on Earth," etc.. any way to get ahold of these?  A tape I’m missing? Maybe fans have just such a videotape circulating about? >~Shadow

I already posted a reply to this, but I thought another may be in order… Not only would it be impossible to get enough support for Ozzy, but, as evidenced in this NG, you couldn’t even settle on a video! How many have we seen so far? I think I’ve counted five. Not to mention how many other fans of how many other groups are saying the same thing right now? Give it up- it was a great prank. But let’s face the facts. Unless you’re 14 and love Korn and Limp Bizkit and ‘NSync or are Bratt370, MTV just isn’t made for you. You want to see your favorite Ozzy video? Buy the tape and pop it in your VCR. If you want to see it on MTV, try watching Beavis and Butthead- you have a better chance seeing it there. So far, I’ve seen Iron Man, Close My Eyes Forever and Shot In The Dark on B&B- more than MTV has shown in the last ten years. ~Shadow – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >I for one am sick and tired of MTV these days, what really broke it was >yesterday when they played a New Kids On The Block Video. Uh, dude… :) The NKOTB thing was a joke.  Some folks from alt.mtv-sucks (among other ngs) all launched a massive e-mail campaign to request it and so we all did, just to see if MTV would honour it. >http://aol.mtv.com/sendme.cgi?/mtv/tubescan/totalrequest2 >we could vote in Ozzy or Black Sabbath. Iron Man video?  Awww yeah! I wish MTV’d release more of those fucking "Closet Classic" videos – they only released one (that I know of) and it has a Sab video, among other classic bands (Who, Beach Boys, Yes, etc, etc..) >TRAY

<snip a bit more> Well, I think that not only has it worked, but it’s going to hurt the show.  I voted yesterday for Rush, and my note said "If you guys can play New Kids, you can at least play music that is good."  It’s already hurting them.  Who knows… maybe the show will be canceled.  Too much good music being played, not enough "Britany Spears." — High Voltage Cable AIM:  JoshCable  —  ICQ#: 19494247 Lewis Black:  http://www.tir.com/~jtcable/lewispage.html Xenogears sucks. Read this and it should shed some light on the topic for you. And, by the way, now that it has been done, every fan of very band will be trying to do the same thing. It won’t work. That is, of course, unless you get EVERY fan of a particular musician to send in a vote. There aren’t enough of us in this NG to comprise a majority when you’re up against a billion teeny-boppers who can cast votes via the net or the phone. The NKOTB video was a prank and got enough circulation to create that majority. It wasn’t an effort to promote NKOTB- it was an effort to slap MTV upside the head and it worked. Well, for a day anyway. No one is going to be able to promote their favorite artist that well. Read on…. I found this on another newsgroup and I thought it might be appropriate. Why?  Because it’s prank on that channel everyone loves to hate, MTv. Flame me if you want, but don’t expect me to care. (Dean Wormer-DEAD!  Niedermeyer-DEAD!) >Hello all. This is a chain letter that I am starting (hear me out).

There is nothing I loathe more than chain letters. Well, except for the teenage obsession and recent success of such male quintuplet vocal acts as: The Backstreet Boys, N Sync, and 98 Degrees, and Five; who constantly dwell on TRL.    TRL, for those of you who don’t know, is the abbreviation for the showcase of Carson Daly witticisms that is Total Request Live on MTV. Here is what we must all pull together and do: send this email to as many people as possible.  The message is simple.  On MARCH 10, 1999, everyone who has received this email will get on-line and, before the airing of Total Request Live, cast their vote for the New Kids on the Block’s epic music video-"Hanging Tough." http://www.mtv.com/mtv/tubescan/totalrequest2 It is the ultimate insult to popular culture. And here is the compelling, dramatic, conclusion:  I don’t know if this is original.  I don’t know if anyone has ever had this thought before. You won’t be cursed with bad luck and misfortune if you choose not to pass this on.  You, in turn, will not reep lifelong rewards and benefits if you do.  But you will laugh your ass off if it works. And in that hysterical fit of laughter you will live the long fruitful life and die the ill-fated tragic death all at the same time.  We can make this happen. Now the author would like to apologize for any misspellings, offensive or politically incorrect ethnic slurs, verbosity, inappropriate word use, and failure to convey a lucid, well-organized thought. P.S.  Be sure to include ridiculous things in your request, such as: "Please Carson, will you play "Hangin’ Tough" by the New Kids on the Block.  Danny is such a clean-cut boy, and he’ll never be in trouble with the law.  Also, I think that these guys have the Right Stuff, and they’re going to be around for a long time." << Send this to any other newsgroups you can, we’ve got to make this thing work!!! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >I for one am sick and tired of MTV these days, what really broke it was >yesterday when they played a New Kids On The Block Video.
